Boom Operator

If there is only one person recording sound on the shoot, they are the Sound Recordist.

If there are two or more, then we have the Sound Mixer and a Boom Operator.

The Boom Operator uses the Boom to place a directional microphone where it can pick up the best audio - usually the dialogue.

They need to understand best practice for audio recording. They work closely with the Sound Mixer. We provide training on boom operating for beginners.
